SECTION VII: THE GAME, SCORING, AND THE BUST RULE
RULE 24: BEGINNING THE GAME
- All sets in each match will begin with the flip of a coin to establish the initial throw at the cork. The home team captain will toss the coin the visiting captain will call it. The winner of the coin toss will chose who corks first. For teams throwing multiple Legs, the losers of the previous leg will cork first for the second and third legs. The team throwing closest to the bull starts the leg. If both captains agree, they can flip the coin for the first set and alternate first cork, for each successive sets.
- If both captains agree and if they are available, 2 boards may be used simultaneously.
- A player must be scheduled to play the set for which he throws the cork.
- In team set or doubles sets, the cork thrower need not be the first thrower for his team in the set.
- If the scorekeeper determines a tie in throwing the cork, a re-throw will be made. Single bull ties single bull, and double bull ties double bull. Players will reverse throwing order on a re-throw.
- The second thrower may acknowledge the first player’s dart as a bull and have it removed from the board by the scorekeeper before throwing.
- Should the second player dislodge the first player’s dart, a re-throw will be made with the second player now throwing first.
- A player shall not practice on any dartboard during a game in which he/she is competing after the initial cork dart has been thrown.
- Each player is limited to nine darts of warm-up throws between match sets unless both captains agree.
- Propelling a dart by mechanical means is prohibited.
- When throwing, both feet must remain behind the front edge of the throwing line. This line must not be over-stepped before the dart contacts the dartboard.
RULE 25: QUALITY POINTS
- Quality Points (QPs) are recognition for a good throw. QP’s do not function in any way to determine the winning or losing of a game.
- When thrown, QP’s will be noted on the score sheet in the area given. If necessary, the white space around the edge may be used if all available space is utilized. The reason for the QP is noted in this space, not the value of the QP.
- At the end of the match, the QP’s are totaled up and noted.
- In AA, A, B, and C divisions, the following are the QP values:
- _01 Games; 80-94 = 1; 95-119 = 2; 120-139 = 3; 140-169 = 4; 170-180 = 5
- Cricket Games; 5-Hitter=1; 6-Hitter=2; 7-Hitter=3; 8-Hitter=4; 9-Hitter=5
- Bulls in Cricket Games; 4-Bulls=1; 5-Bulls=3; 6-Bulls=5
- In the Masters division, the following are the QP values:
- _01 Games; 90-109=1; 110-129=2; 130-149=3; 150-169=4; 170-180=5
- Cricket Games; 5-Hitter=1; 6-Hitter=2; 7-Hitter=3; 8-Hitter=4; 9-Hitter=5
- Bulls in Cricket Games; 4-Bulls=1; 5-Bulls=3; 6-Bulls=5
- Any conflict, the greater value will be utilized. For example: If a person throws 6 bulls, since a 6 hitter is only worth 2 and 6 bulls is worth 5, then the 6 bulls QP is only noted. Another example is if a person throws triple 15 and 2 double bulls, since a 7 hitter is worth more than 4 bulls, then the 7 hitter QP is only noted.
RULE 26: SCOREKEEPER’S RESPONSIBILITIES
- The scorekeeper for each game shall be acceptable to both Captains. Both teams will share in the scoring duties.
- The home team provides the scorekeeper for the first set and the away team provides the scorekeeper for the second set. The scorekeeping responsibility alternates for every set thereafter.
- Scorekeepers are required to adhere to the following rules of scorekeeping.
THE SCOREKEEPER SHALL NOT
- ...Talk to anyone while keeping score
- ...Move about -- you must stand still
- ...Look at the shooter -- you must stand facing the board
- ...Call out a score of one dart or all three unless asked by the shooter
- ...Tell a shooter what to shoot or what combination to shoot for an out
- ...Change a score if that player has shot again and his second score has been written down
- ...Lean out to see where a dart is or follow the darts with body or head movement
- ...Show any signs of disgust or excitement while scoring
- ...Change the sides of the scoreboard of players in three-leg matches. If you start a team on the left, leave them on the left
THE SCOREKEEPER MAY:
- ...Inform the thrower what has been scored, only if requested by the thrower
- ...Inform the thrower what is remaining to be scored, only if requested by the thrower
- For a dart to score, it must remain independently penetrating the dartboard for five (5) seconds after the player’s last dart is thrown.
- A dart score will be determined from the side of the wire in which the dart penetrates the board.
- The point of the dart must penetrate the dartboard to score. Darts may not be touched prior to the decision of the scorekeeper.
- It is the responsibility of each player to verify his/her own score before removing any darts from the board. The score will remain as written if one or more darts are removed.
- Errors in the arithmetic must stand unless corrected prior to the next dart being thrown by any partner/player on that team.
- If a player throws out of turn, the score will be zero. The scheduled player will forfeit his/her turn and the game will continue. A challenge to an out of turn player must be made before the next player throws. Failure to challenge before the next player throws will allow the score to stand.
- For the purpose of finishing the game, the inner bull is a double 25 for 1001, 501, 401, and 301. The inner bull is a double bull for ADO Cricket.
- To finish a _01 game, the dart must land in a double ring, in a number that is equal to one half the remaining score.
- A dart thrown after the out dart, which results in a score, constitutes a bust.
- All games are final once the scorekeeper has designated the winning dart. If both Captains agree, a replay may occur. If no agreement is made, then the protest procedure in Rule 11 may be utilized and the Rules Committee will decide.
RULE 28: THE BUST RULE IN _01 GAMES
The BUST RULE shall apply. If the player scores one less, equal, or more points than needed to reach zero and the last dart is not a double, he/she has “busted.” His/her score reverts back to the score required prior to the beginning of his throw.
- A team not present per Rule 22 will lose the match by forfeit.
- A minimum of two (2) players of one team must be present to receive a winning forfeiture.
- The League Statistician must be notified by mail AND by phone by the winning Captain of a Forfeit match.
- No match will be won or lost by forfeiture in the event of inclement weather. The team Captains of the opposing teams shall schedule a makeup match within two weeks of the regularly scheduled match except during the last two weeks of regularly scheduled League play. During the last two weeks of League play, the rescheduled match must be played before the next regularly scheduled match. The visiting team Captain shall contact the home team based on the individual circumstances. The home team Captain shall call the League Statistician prior to 12:00 noon the following day and leave a message stating that the match will be rescheduled. The notification shall include each team’s name, Captains’ names and telephone numbers, night, and division. Bad weather shall be defined as excessive snow, blizzard conditions, tornado warnings, and flooding as indicated by the Colorado Springs Police Department or the Colorado State Patrol. Bad weather shall be said to exist when the Colorado Springs Police Department is on the “cold report” system.
- If a team forfeits two (2) matches in one season, The Rules Committee may drop them from the League.
- If a team loses their membership in CSDL for two (2) forfeiture in a season, the opposing teams will receive points for the actual number of games played up until the team loses membership.
